"Metafisica" Toscana Bianco 2021, Castello Romitorio
Starting from the 2021 vintage, Metafisica IGT Toscana Bianco is a blend of 50% Chardonnay, grown in Montalcino, and 50% Procanico, grown in Maremma, on the Scansano estate. The vineyards that give life to this wine are extremely small, the grapes are brought to optimal ripeness, and then processed separately, from fermentation to aging.
TASTING NOTES
Produced from a vineyard located at the highest point of an area where the soils contain oyster shells, giving the wine a distinctive character. It shows generous aromas of ripe tree fruit, lemon, green apple, and white flowers, complemented by a subtle briny minerality and a gentle touch of oak on the nose, as the wine spends nine months in barrique. The style is bright and fresh, offering a good amount of ripe fruit balanced by lightly toasted oak spice and a firm acidity, with a tongue-tingling minerality that extends the finish.
THE LABEL
The watercolor on the label of Metafisica was painted by Sandro
Chia in 2020 specifically for this wine. The piece was created to
resemble the universe, which has a seemingly abstract
relationship to space and time when compared to time on Earth.
Metafisica, which is a blend of Chardonnay and Trebbiano
Procanico, is a resonant nectar that seems able to transport us
across centuries, if not millennia, of making fine white wines in
the Mediterranean
