Le Crocine "Risico" Toscana Rosso, Marzichi Lenzi
Le Crocine's new wine is called "Risico," and its name is no coincidence. It harks back to the numerous attempts, experiments, and research into Syrah, which is expressed in this single-varietal version. The 2024 version, aged for 14 months in small oak barrels (50% new and 50% second-passage), has an intense ruby red color with purple hues. On the nose, hints of pepper and Mediterranean scrub unfold over a lush base of red and black fruits. On the palate, it is soft, creamy, and persistent, with an intense and enveloping finish, once again fruity. Le Crocine is the winemaking project of Niccolò Marzichi Lenzi—former CEO of Tenuta di Biserno and son of Ilaria Antinori—and his wife, Joy Green. The winery is located between Bolgheri and Bibbona and produced its first wines, releasing them on the market with the 2012 vintage. The project's unique feature is that it does not own or lease vineyards, sourcing the raw materials for its wines from a series of carefully selected suppliers operating in the vineyards of Bolgheri, Bibbona, and Suvereto. The company's portfolio also includes: Bolgheri Rosso "57022," "Le Crocine" (a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon), and "Cuvée Eva" (a pure Cabernet Franc dedicated to actress Eva Green, twin sister of Joy, the "Bond girl" in Casino Royale).
